The Hobbit

The novel "The Hobbit" by J.R.R Tolkien can be used to answer the free response prompt that is based on whether a journey is a major force in a work. The entire novel is based upon a journey across the fictional land of Middle Earth. It is a quest to recover treasure and to bring out the adventurous side of the main character Bilbo Baggins. The journey transforms not only Mr. Baggins but his companions as well, they realize that life is not based on wealth and or power. So the journey plays a huge role in the novel and also in the development of the characters in the book. That is how the novel "The Hobbit" can be used to answer a free response prompt on the AP Lit exam.
